Ultraviolet Radiation
Ultraviolet radiation is one of the immediate downsides to the phenomenon going on called Global Warming. It is a form of light that is given off by the sun and although it is useful in some forms, it causes direct damage to the skin and can even cause skin cancer. Luckily for us, our bodies are equipped with a natural element that has to do with reducing the risk of ultraviolet radiation and that is tanning, but it is also important to use sun block to block the effects of ultraviolet radiation on the body.
For practical purposes, ultraviolet radiation is often called UV radiation or just UV rays, for short. There are three types of UV radiation types, and those are UVA, UVB, and UVC rays, and it is the UVA radiation types that we have the most to deal with.
In one day, the health effects of UV radiation are not going to do anything to you. The fact and fiction on UV radiation and genetics and UV radiation are something hat everybody has to work out for themselves. The human body used to have just about everything that it needs to work out things as pertained to UV radiation. The effects were not always as serious as the body cannot get in enough ultraviolet radiation in one day to really do any harm but it is when the amount of UV radiation adds up that problems begin to occur. Genetics have a bit to do with how UV radiation affects the body, as some people are more equipped to handle what the sun can dish out than others. Those with more natural melanin are better equipped to be protected against the effects of UV radiation than those without it, meaning that people with darker skin are actually somewhat better off when it comes to the health effects of UV radiation.
It is also important to remember that UV radiation is not all bad. Our bodies need a certain amount of just about everything in our environment in order to function correctly, so it is not like staying out of the sun entirely can help you to prevent skin cancer. In the meantime you can develop other conditions, like Rickets and that is never good. Using a sun block is a good way to find a happy medium between harmful UV rays and useful ultraviolet radiation.
